About Judy's Cavaliers — Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Breeders in Lancaster, PA
We're Chuck and Claudia Holt, a family-run breeder in Lancaster, PA. Every puppy is raised inside our home — not a kennel — alongside our family.

Our story
Our journey with Cavaliers began in 2003 out of a deep desire to help our daughter, Judy Grace, who has autism. At the time, Judy struggled with staying in her own bed through the night, seeking comfort and reassurance. Though her autism hadn't yet been diagnosed, we knew she needed something more-something we hadn't yet found.
Providing Cavaliers for Families with Special Needs and Trauma
Many of our puppies go to homes where special needs, trauma, or emotional healing are part of the journey-and nothing brings us greater joy than seeing the difference a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel can make. Judy Grace, now older, plays an active role in caring for the puppies, helping them transition to their new homes. It's a full-circle moment—one that started with Benny and continues with every puppy we place.
"There is nothing quite like the steady companionship of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel by your side."

Then Came Benny - A Life-Changing Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
On a recommendation, we brought home a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy, hoping he could provide the comfort Judy so desperately needed. What happened next was nothing short of remarkable. While Cavaliers aren't traditionally classified as therapy dogs, Benny intuitively understood Judy's emotions. He became her constant source of peace, curling up beside her when she was distressed, nestling into her lap when she needed reassurance, and always staying close through the night. For 14 wonderful years, Benny was more than a pet—he was a lifeline.
Through Benny, we discovered the incredible gift that Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies offer, especially to children and families facing unique challenges. Over the years, more Cavaliers joined our family, each demonstrating the same profound empathy and gentle nature. We saw firsthand how their presence could bring calm to a restless heart and joy to a struggling soul.
How We Raise Our Cavaliers
In 2022, inspired by our own experience, we made the decision to start breeding Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies in Lancaster, PA, so that other families could experience the same love, comfort, and companionship. That's how Judy's Cavaliers was born.
We raise each litter in our home with love, ensuring our puppies are: ✅ Extremely well-socialized from birth, beginning with Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) ✅ Exposed to various developmentally appropriate socialization experiences ✅ Crate trained, potty trained, and leash trained before going to their forever homes. We do the hard work so that when you bring home one of our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies, they are well-adjusted, confident, and ready to provide unconditional love and steadfast comfort.

We do the hard work — so they're ready
Every litter is raised in our home on the same structured path before going home.
Whelped in our living room and monitored around the clock. Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) begins.
Daily handling and developmentally appropriate exposure — sounds, surfaces, people — building a confident, calm adult.
Crate, potty, and leash training all begin before a puppy ever leaves us.
Well-adjusted, confident, and vet-cleared — ready to give unconditional love and steadfast comfort.
A small, home-centered program in Lancaster, PA
Located near Lancaster, PA, Judy's Cavaliers is family-run, where every puppy is raised inside the home — not in a kennel. Our property is where our dogs live, play, and grow alongside our family, giving them a strong foundation of comfort and real-life experiences from day one.
We proudly welcome families near and far. Because our program is intentionally small, visits and placements are scheduled in advance through our waitlist.
Health first — always
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a wonderful breed with known health considerations, and we take them seriously. We are intentional about our dam and sire pairings, and both parents complete health screening before any litter is planned.

Everyone’s journey matters
Our own journey
Like many families, we have experienced our own share of trauma, PTSD, and the challenges that come with caring for loved ones with special needs. Over the years, we have welcomed more than 24 foster children into our home and ultimately adopted five of them—all biological siblings—some of whom have special needs.
Most recently, our youngest daughter, Judy Grace, was diagnosed with Autism Catatonia. Our own journey has brought seasons of heartbreak, uncertainty, and incredible perseverance. Through it all, one constant source of comfort has been the unconditional love and companionship of our Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Their gentle, intuitive nature has provided peace during difficult days and has played a meaningful role in our family’s healing journey.
Many Judy’s Cavaliers puppies have gone on to support families with special needs, emotional healing journeys, therapy work, and rehabilitation environments — something deeply meaningful to our family and our breeding mission.
We are not selling puppies. We are offering hope.
Every family becomes part of the Judy’s Cavaliers family
When a family adopts one of our puppies, they don’t stop being part of our lives. We get to know our families personally, and we welcome them into our home.
Many of our pet parents who live within about three hours visit weekly while their puppy is growing up — something that’s easy to do when families join our waitlist ahead of time. They meet the mother of the litter. They watch their puppy grow. By the time they take their puppy home, we aren’t strangers to each other.
This past year we held our first puppy reunion. More than seventy people came to our property — not just to see us, but to see each other. Someone standing in the yard that day said, “There are a lot of Claudia fans in this yard.” We think about that often.
We love getting to know prospective families, and we’re happy to schedule phone or FaceTime conversations to introduce you to our dogs and upcoming litters.
In our families’ own words
We are thankful every day that Claudia returned our call, told us about the puppies she had in her home, and invited us to come. After visiting 6 other places with Cavaliers, we knew instantly we wanted a pup from this home-born litter… We were in constant contact and visited their home every week until we brought a healthy, socialized Petunia home! She has a healing presence from recent grief over the loss of our beloved dog. Our relationship with Claudia and Chuck will continue as we share this happy adventure and hope to be friends for a long time!

Each step of the way, Claudia shared all of our little boy’s life milestones and her transparency not only made us feel like we got to be a part of the process, but made us so comfortable and excited about his arrival into our home. Whether it was a FaceTime, a phone call or even just a quick picture to check-in, we truly got to see our puppy grow before he came home to us. Claudia has treated us like family… I highly recommend Judy’s Cavaliers, truly the best of the best.
